The Mind: The War Within

The Mind: The War Within

[Continuation from ‘Winning the Battle of the Mind’]

We are engaged in a war; the enemy is Satan; the mind is the battle field; and the devil works diligently to set up strongholds in our minds. He does it through strategy and deceit, (well laid out plans and deliberate deceptions). He is in no hurry; he takes his time to work out his plans.

We are to cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself above the knowledge of the truth. God’s word is truth.

John 8:31-32 (KJV). Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Freedom comes through knowing and acting on the truth. Jesus Himself calls Himself The Truth.

John 14:6-7 (KJV). Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

Any thought not in harmony with the Word of God can be challenged. Questions need to be asked regarding the source of such thoughts so that we can appreciate the structures already built in our minds. In doing so, we can confront such things with the Word of God to begin the restructuring process.

We can choose our thoughts and we can guard our hearts and our thinking processes. Our self-talk is one of the greatest tools we have in retraining our minds. Meditation includes talking to oneself, uttering, muttering and imagining what is being meditated on.

We can agree with God’s Word by saying the following: “I have the mind of Christ; I refuse to carry cares and anxieties; I choose my thoughts and guard my heart; I am who God says I am, I have what God says I have and I can do what God says I can do. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. I commit myself to doing God’s word in all areas of my life”.

Renewal of the mind includes subjecting the mind to hearing, thinking and doing the Word of God so consistently that the structures are rearranged. It needs to be done prayerfully so that we can take advantage of the presence and influence of the Holy Spirit to help us in this process. He is called the Spirit of Truth, He has been called alongside to lead and guide us into all truth.

We need to take the lordship of Jesus over our minds seriously so we do not allow thoughts contrary to His word dominate our thinking processes.

All these help us to confront thought patterns and lead to changes in our lives as we change our thoughts. Change of thoughts will lead to changes in life.
