Marketplace Ministry (Part 2)

Marketplace Ministry (Part 2)

Let’s look at some ingredients in the temptation of Joseph and learn also from the temptation of Jesus. This will help us understand the enemy and how to handle him.

Satan uses the world, the flesh and demons to accomplish his stealing, killing and destroying business.

1 John 2:15-17 (AMPC)

Do not love or cherish the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification] and the lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind] and the pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father but are from the world [itself].
And the world passes away and disappears, and with it the forbidden cravings (the passionate desires, the lust) of it; but he who does the will of God and carries out His purposes in his life abides (remains) forever.

Anyone who is not under the influence of the Spirit of God will yield and build on these things.

Joseph’s life:

Genesis 39:7-12 (AMPC)
Then after a time his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and she said, Lie with me.
But he refused and said to his master’s wife, See here, with me in the house my master has concern about nothing; he has put all that he has in my care.
He is not greater in this house than I am; nor has he kept anything from me except you, for you are his wife. How then can I do this great evil and sin against God?
She spoke to Joseph day after day, but he did not listen to her, to lie with her or to be with her.
Then it happened about this time that Joseph went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the men of the house were indoors.
And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me! But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out [of the house].

Given his background as a slave and coming into authority in the house of his master, this would have been a time to consolidate his gains. Satan definitely wanted to abort his destiny and Potiphar’s wife wanted to satisfy her lust; he was expected to consider what could become his, by this activity.
He turned it down and ended up in prison. Was it worth it? Without God and His standards, anyone would see how he was a looser for refusing.
