Q:
Dear sir,
I get haunted by my past sin; how do I get rid of it?
A:
Dear Brother,
Thank you for your question and by the grace of God this is the answer.
The sins of the past haunting us is the work of the flesh, empowered by the demonic. What is sin? It is a transgression of God’s law or Word. It is the nature of the devil as well as the nature of the fallen man. When man fell, he took on the nature of satan. Sin is a nature. This nature manifests itself through the desires of the flesh. The desires of the flesh have been empowered by what the bible calls lusts of the flesh, lusts of the eyes and pride of life. These things also govern the systems of the world. The anatomy of sin is found in James 1:14-15. When Desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full grown, it brings forth death. Man has been unable to save himself.
God sent His Son Jesus to take upon Himself our sin nature on the cross. Him who knew no sin was made sin so we can be made the righteousness of God in Christ. At the time He took upon Him our sin nature, the Father took His face away from Him on the cross. Remember He said on the cross, My Father, why have you forsaken me? God is too holy to behold sin. The way He took our sicknesses, is the same way He took our sin on Himself. When we get born again, we become who Jesus is as He became who we are. This divine exchange was done on our behalf. So building a new consciousness is the beginning. The power of sin has been broken over us by the finished work of calvary. All satan can do is tell lies and uses our desires to deceive us into thinking, believing that we are still under the dominion of the sin he is using to hunt us. Your desires need to be retrained to embrace your new nature. If any one is in Christ, He is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Your sin has been laid on Jesus so you have no business carrying it. The one who was under the dominion of sin has died with Christ on the cross. You are a new creature. Reckon yourself dead to the sins but alive unto God! See Romans 8.
The challenge is in the mind, then it is about renewing the mind, changing the way the mind works. Sin shall not have dominion over you. So check your desires, the thoughts you are allowing in your mind and what you are fixing your eyes on that affects your inner image through meditation. You do these warfare through prayers. See 2 Corinthians 10:3-5. You have the name of Jesus, the word of God and the blood of Jesus as weapons of your warfare. You declare war on sin, satan and the thoughts and desires that generate the pressure to sin. Satan comes either through a sense of condemnation, to make you feel unworthy to please God. It is a lie, you are already accepted in the beloved, already made righteous. Or He comes through an enticement that you still love the sin and enjoy it. They are both lies. You will say “no” to both lies and tell yourself and the devil. your sin has been borne by Jesus and you are willing to please God and not enticed to desire the sin no more. So retrain your desires and thoughts as a new creature who loves to please the Father.
Who are you? the Old man or the new creature? What do want to do? live in sin or please God? Who will determine the outcome? You! Start saying who you are in Christ, speak to your flesh, your mind and command the devil to break his old over your mind. Declare war on sin and satan. You are a winner not a looser.
I hope you have your answer to your question. God bless. Take advantage of past messages. Listen to them over and over to build a new inner image inside you. You are delivered already so inform your mind and flesh until they get it. Satan has no power over you. You have the authority to put him under check in your life.
