Overcoming the Spirit of Poverty

Overcoming the Spirit of Poverty

Many have considered a lack of money or resources to be a normal way of life. In Christ, this is not so!  Christ bore our poverty as well as our sin and sicknesses so we should not bear them again.

Like everything in the kingdom of darkness, there are ruling spirits who administer these things.  A sickness can be caused by a physical problem or infection or poisoning or anything in the natural. This does not mean that spirits are not behind these operations. They may not be directly responsible but they are the ones behind such oppression called sicknesses and disease.

Acts 10:38

How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and,in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him.

Oppression is of the devil and sickness is an oppression. Our subject is poverty. Though there are things that attract poverty to mankind, it is nonetheless a curse and administered by demons too, just like sickness and disease. God’s plan includes breaking the curse of sickness, disease, poverty and all demonic holds on humanity at the cross of Christ.

Luke 4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity],

To proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound].

To be set free from any demonic influence involves more than just casting the devil out. Deliverance involves renunciation, repentance and rebuking the devil and commanding it to leave your body, or mind or family. The matter does not end there. We need to get filled with God’s Word and Spirit, so that a new lifestyle is generated; producing new speaking, meditation and expectations in life. All these are based on the Word of God.

To get started in our study, let us study something of the demonic kingdom controlling the lives, circumstances and thoughts of people. Let us start with our thoughts.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

For though we walk (live) in the flesh, we are not carrying on our warfare according to the flesh and using mere human weapons.

For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds,

[In as much as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)

Strongholds represent thought-patterns that have a hold on our minds. Principalities control people’s thoughts and hence their words, and they keep getting what they say!
